What if Moses, Elijah, or Daniel could ask *you* a question? We love imagining their miracles and trials, but they might be just as amazed to hear what it’s like living in the final chapter of earth’s history. Scripture says a “time of trouble” is coming unlike anything before it—swift, global, and spiritually intense—yet it also carries a promise: God’s people will be delivered. This isn’t written to produce fear. It’s written to produce readiness. The closing scenes won’t just be political or social—they’ll be spiritual. The great controversy will move from theory to reality, and the world will be pressed to choose whom it will worship. And here’s the privilege: God’s final witness won’t be given through the strongest generation—but through ordinary believers who learn to trust Him completely. In the hour when it matters most, God will be vindicated through a people who cling to Christ, stand on truth, and prove that His ways are just. That’s why this is the most exciting time of all—because we’re not just watching prophecy. We’re living it.
Living in the Most Exciting Time of All
What if the heroes of biblical history were to ask us what it was like living in our time? While we often dream of asking Moses about parting the Red Sea or David about facing Goliath, have we considered that they might be just as curious about our experience? Those who lived through the defining moments of scripture might well wonder what it was like to live at the end of time—the most exciting period in all of human history.
A Time Like No Other
The book of Daniel contains a striking prophecy about the days ahead: "There shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation" (Daniel 12:1). This isn't meant to inspire fear, but rather to prepare us for something unprecedented. The closing events of earth's history will surpass anything that has come before in intensity, scope, and spiritual significance.
Yet this same verse contains a crucial promise: "At that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book." Conflict and controversy, yes—but also deliverance. God's people will not be abandoned in the final crisis.
The Nature of the Final Crisis
What makes this time of trouble unique? Several factors set it apart from all previous periods of difficulty:
It will be swift. Romans 9:28 tells us that "the Lord will make a short work upon the earth." Unlike the 1,260 years of papal supremacy during the Dark Ages, the final events will unfold with blinding force in rapid succession. Calamities will follow one another quickly, bringing matters to a decisive conclusion.
It will be universal. There will be no neutral ground, no spiritual Switzerland where one can hide. The crisis will be worldwide, touching every nation, every community, every individual. This universality is part of its purpose—to bring the great controversy to its final resolution so humanity can finally go home.
The spiritual realm will be undeniable. Currently, many dismiss the existence of God, angels, or Satan as mere superstition. But during the final crisis, the spiritual world will manifest openly. Revelation 13 describes miraculous signs and wonders so convincing that even the elect would be deceived if it were possible. False prophets will perform spectacular miracles. Satan himself will impersonate Christ with such precision that the entire world will be swayed.
Consider how this might unfold: fallen angels impersonating religious figures from various faiths, all proclaiming a unified message that contradicts God's truth. Muhammad appearing to Muslims, Buddha to Buddhists, Krishna to Hindus—all claiming to have spent time with Christ and promoting a false unity. This explains how "all the world" will wonder after the beast, even those from non-Christian backgrounds.
Social chaos will reign. Luke 21:25 speaks of "distress of nations with perplexity." The Greek word translated as "perplexity" literally means "no way out." Nations will see no solution to the mounting crises. The "sea and the waves roaring"—representing people and nations in prophetic language—depicts humanity in an uproar, frustrated and desperate.
The Gloves Come Off
Satan knows his time is short, and he will unleash his fury without restraint. Yet despite his fierce opposition, there will be a mass exodus from fallen churches and false religious systems. The third angel's message will have done its work, warning against the mark of the beast. The fourth angel's message will ring out: "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins."
The Holy Spirit will be poured out without measure—the latter rain empowering God's people for final witness. The day of Pentecost, when thousands were converted in a single day, will pale in comparison to what happens during this time. It's like a Christmas tree with lights carefully arranged through every branch—beautiful in potential, but truly magnificent only when the power is turned on.
God on Trial
Behind all these dramatic events lies a deeper reality: God himself is on trial. When Satan rebelled in heaven, he didn't just commit an act of defiance—he launched an attack on the very foundations of God's government. He accused God of being unfair, unreasonable, and unnecessarily restrictive. One-third of heaven's angels believed these charges and joined Satan's rebellion.
God, in his wisdom, chose to answer these accusations not by force but through evidence. Like any legitimate court case, both sides would present their witnesses. Throughout history, God has demonstrated his character through the lives of his people. But his most powerful closing argument is reserved for the final generation.
The Supreme Demonstration
Through the last generation—common, ordinary people like you and me—God will give his supreme demonstration. Not through the strong, the wealthy, or the academically gifted, but through an entire generation of faithful believers, young and old.
This generation will face unparalleled trials. They will be threatened, persecuted, excluded from society, boycotted, imprisoned, and ultimately face a death decree. The whole world will stand against them. Yet like Job, they will say, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him."
But God's demonstration goes even further. He will withdraw his Holy Spirit from the earth—not from his people, but from those who have persistently rejected him. Can you imagine the chaos when the restraining influence that has held back complete evil is removed? The angels holding back the winds of strife will let them go.
Then God does something extraordinary—something he did to Jesus on the cross. He hides himself. The sanctuary in heaven closes, filled with smoke from God's glory, and no one can enter until the seven last plagues are fulfilled (Revelation 15:8). God's people must live in the sight of a holy God without a mediator, plunged into what scripture calls "the time of Jacob's trouble."
Like Jacob wrestling with God, they will wrestle in prayer. Not because they doubt their salvation—they haven't received the plagues—but seeking complete assurance that nothing stands between them and God.
The Weakest Vindicate the Strongest
Here's the remarkable truth: this final generation is the weakest of the weak. We live further from the Garden of Eden than any previous generation. Physically, morally, emotionally, and mentally, we are more affected by 6,000 years of sin than anyone before us.
Yet through the power of the Holy Spirit, this weakest generation will keep God's commandments under the most extreme circumstances imaginable. They will successfully repel Satan's attacks and live to bring glory to God. If they can do this—the weakest of the weak—what excuse remains for anyone ever sinning?
God will be vindicated. Isaiah 43:10 declares, "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord." What a privilege! We spend much time asking things of God, but have we considered the honor of doing something for him? His government was attacked, and we get to defend him.
The Victory Song
After it's all over, those who gained victory over the beast, his image, and his mark will stand on the sea of glass with harps of God. They will sing, "Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints" (Revelation 15:3).
The people who lived through the final crisis—who experienced the time of trouble such as never was—will be the ones declaring God's justice and truth to the universe. Satan's arguments will be forever refuted.
No Fear, Only Excitement
This isn't a message of fear but of extraordinary privilege and excitement. Yes, challenging times lie ahead. Yes, the final crisis will be intense. But God will throw his everlasting arms around his people and shield them from all harm. Not one of his children will perish once probation closes.
We are living in the most exciting time of all—a time when ordinary people will participate in the final vindication of God's character. A time when the great controversy will reach its climax and resolution. A time when we'll finally go home.
The biblical heroes may have their dramatic stories, but we have something they never experienced: the privilege of living through earth's final chapter and defending God's name when it matters most. That, dear friends, is something worth getting excited about.
